Gloria, Rusty & Cassiano, 2013

graphite on paper

This series of drawings are inspired from facial disfigurement case studies documented during an early plastic surgery conference in the 1950’s.  This is an ongoing series of illustrations.
Similar to Gericault's Portraits of the Insane, these characters are unexpected sitters.  Each of the people in these drawings had normal mental capacities, yet struggled to integrate into society easily.  They are each beautiful, unique, and inspiring.
The drawings were chosen for Jury Prize (juror Greg Bell) at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery in Seattle, and were exhibited at the Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn.
